Auckland Province/Area
Auckland was reconstituted as a Province following the dissolution of the County system in January, 1955. Area status followed on 1 January, 1962. During the period
1955-62, no district in Auckland Province had its own separate badge. All wore the provincial badge. In 1999, Auckland Area was split three ways into Mahurangi (North
of the bridge), Counties Manukau (South Auckland) and a smaller, redefined Auckland
